Step 1: Whether your deck is a perfect rectangle or an irregular shape, measure the length and width of the deck at its longest.
Ex: The width is 24 feet and the length is 18 feet
Step 2: Take the length and width and multiply them together to find the area of the deck.
Ex: 24ft x 18ft = 432sqft
What if you have a blank slate?
If you’re considering getting a deck to add to your home, but aren’t sure about the size you want, get creative!
Use something like rope to trace the outline of the area you might want. You can use things like flags and rocks to mark the corners of the area so you can envision your brand new deck space!
From there, grab your measuring tape and use the steps above to find the area to get a starting point for your project!
